Invest your digital spare change tax-free with every card swipe
The average young South African doesn’t save enough or invest long-term. Liberty wanted an easy and fun way to help educate the youth to be financially smarter. Stash was created to invest your digital spare change into a tax-free savings account. As a Stasher swipes their card, Stash detects the SMS transaction and rounds it up to the nearest R10.

Project Objective
Stash needed usability and visual enhancements to the already existing Android app and due to popular demand – new roll-out to iOS.
Download to Investing in less than 90 seconds
Stash had a great introduction to the market, but had a drop-off in the onboarding process when connecting your bank card. The process was simplified and emphasis was added on security. As a bonus, a R50 incentive was offered to kick-start your investment.
Save extra cash when you have it
Instead of just the option for a R10 ‘Stash Tap’ to boost your balance, we added in the rest of the cash notes available: R20, R50, R100 and R200.
Boost to your monthly limit
If a Stasher hasn’t reached their monthly limit yet, they can choose to ‘boost’ to their limit automatically at the end of the month. This acts like a debit order to encourage Stashers to save their full budgeted amount.
Save on a sunny day for a rainy day
iOS users can’t use Stash round-ups due to Apple security reading SMS’s, so we introduced extra features like Sunny Money and Sweat. Enable your location and save R5 when it’s sunny. Enable your health app to save 5c for every 20 calories, 20 seconds, 100 meters and 100 steps.
Easily track your transaction categories
Every line item is categorised so at a glance you can see how you’re saving, or use the filters to view a specific category.
FICA yourself when you want to cash out
Instead of making the onboarding process longer with forms, you only need to FICA yourself when you cash out or start saving more than the threshold each month.
